About Reed Haven
I moved to Mount Gambier in 2019 after a decade doing logistics work out of Melbourne. I had two kids in school, a mortgage that felt like a second job, and a redundancy payout that gave me about eight months of runway if I was careful. I spent the first three months looking for warehouse work locally and not finding much. By month four I started doing the maths on what I could actually sell online that had enough margin to cover the rent at $1,650 a month and still leave something for school fees. That was the real starting point. Not a dream, just a spreadsheet and a deadline.
Before Reed Haven I had no background in homewares or retail. I ran freight documentation for a mid-size import company in Laverton North for seven years, which at least meant I understood lead times, container volumes, and what it costs when a supplier misses a window. I also spent two years before that doing inventory management for a hardware chain out of Dandenong. None of it was glamorous work, but it meant when I started talking to suppliers I knew what questions to ask and I wasn't easy to mislead on pricing or timelines. That background probably saved me from a few expensive mistakes in the first year.
